Object Lesson: Safe in the hand of the Lord

Biblical Foundation: "...and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand." (John 10:28-29)

What we need:
- Some matches.

Let's start!
This little activity is useful as an introduction to a lesson where we teach the children about God's care and protection.
The teacher calls a child to come to the front of the class and gives him a match: "Can you break this match in two?" - This is of course very easy. Then the teacher calls another child and shows him a match in his hand: "Can you break this match in two?" - But this time, the teacher does not give the match to the child. Instead, he closes his hand and holds the match tight in his hand. Now it will be quite difficult to break it!

The explanation follows: "A match is quite a small and weak object. We can easily break it apart when we find it lying around somewhere. But this same little match, when I protect it inside my hand, you are not able to break it. In the same way, we as humans are weak. We can easily be broken by the problems of life and by the attacks of the enemy. But when the Lord Jesus holds you in his hand, the enemy cannot do anything against you. Jesus promised us that nobody can snatch us out of his hand. You do not need to be strong by yourself. But when you trust in the Lord and join Him, He will protect you with His power."
