On this page, you will find each month a new idea for teaching or for an activity with children.
An Intercession Puzzle
What we need:
A drawing or photo of the place for which we are praying
Cardboard
Glue
Scissors
¡Let's start!
We can use this activity in prayer groups when we are praying for
a specific city, place or country. We prepare a puzzle from a
(large-sized) drawing or photo (from a calendar, for example)
representing the city or place for which we will pray. We stick
the drawing or photo with glue onto a piece of cardboard of the
same size, and cut it into pieces after the glue has dried.

On the back of each piece we write a Bible verse we can apply to the situation of the city (a promise from God, a warning or an exhortation), and a prayer request related to this verse. (It is important that the leaders choose these verses and prayer requests with much sensitivity towards the will of God for the city.) |
In the prayer meeting we give a piece of
the puzzle to each child. (In a large group we can form smaller
groups of two or three children and give a piece to each small
group.) Then each child (or each group) prays for the prayer
request written on his/her piece, and then puts the piece into
its place in the puzzle.
(The puzzle can be put together on the floor in the center where
all the children can see it, or we can stick the pieces with
adhesive tape onto the blackboard or the wall.)
After completing the puzzle, all together can praise God for what
he will do in answer to the prayers.
(Instead of praying for a city or country, we can also use other subjects. For example, the children could pray for their families; in this case we use a drawing or photo of a family and write on the pieces Bible verses and prayer requests related to family life.)
